Year 7 and 8 Spotswood College Visit
Today the pupils from Oakura School visited Spotswood College to find out a little bit more about what year 9 learning is like. Mr Knapton had a really fun social studies activity where groups were put into different countries. Each country had a different amount of items/resources depending on what country they came from. If you were in a group such as the U.S.A or the U.K you automatically started off with more resources. Poorer countries like Bangladesh had fewer resources. Students had to bargain and trade to gather the resources they needed to make money for their country. The students learnt that team work and discussion were a must and that it was important to protect the resources they had. They also learnt that if you were a poorer country it was harder to make money.
Mr Scott showed the students how mathematics can be exciting using programmes on the internet. Room 10 and 11 learnt how to read coordinates using a BBC Bitesize programme.
