Speeches Arrive at Oakura School!

The time has finally come to write and deliver a speech! Room 10 and 11 at Oakura School are getting ready to impress their classrooms! We have have been preparing by watching videos, and even had a guest speaker, Nigel, come and give us some advice on how to deliver a great speech.

When Nigel spoke to us he gave us lots of great tips. He said: be a part of your audience and believe in your topic. We brought back lots of information to guide us through speech making. He also talked about choosing the right topic for the right audience. The students have come up with some fun topics to entertain, to inform or to persuade us. We had to think about what our audience would enjoy and something that interests them.

We asked some of the students what they thought about speeches and whether they liked them or not. Most of the students informed us that they enjoyed the process of speech making. Some people liked them, and definately wanted to go through to the school finals. Others just enjoy getting time off homework to complete writing their speech. Some of the speech topics people have come up with are extrodanairy! Some of the topics people wanted to write about were: the top 10 ways to annoy your teacher, what it would be like to be famous and how to make a dog laugh.

Speeches are a great opportunity to become more confident in front of an audience. Everyone is putting their best effort in to write an incredible speech and deliver it with confidence. Good luck to everyone writing speeches!
