On the 20th of August 2013, St Joseph's Hawera came to Oakura School to compete in the 3rd round of the Taranaki interschool sport competition.
Football
"It was a good game, both teams played great!" said student coach Jason. After the whistle blew, St Joseph's scored a quick goal and went 1-0 up on Oakura. Roughly 15 minutes after that, Oakura came back to score 1 of their own to break even. Just before half time St Joseph's scored another goal to bring it to 2-1 at half time. Oakura brought on their subs and scored in the first couple of minutes. The rest of the game was very fast-paced and ended in a 4-4 draw. Gavin was awarded player of the day because he played amazing defence and did heaps of running.
Rugby
After a tough first half, Oakura came back with 4 brillant runaway trys and nice conversions. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to win the game. "I think the game went well and it was a good fare game and all the rugbt boys played very hard even though we were getting wasted the boy's pulled back in the second half to make the final 73-23 to them. A shout out to Matthew (chocalate bar) for commiting to everything," said Oscar (wiz).
Next week's games are on Wednesday the 28th of August against St Joseph's Stratford. Come out and support your children or your mates!
All were great matches to watch. I was very pleased with all our students and their fairplay. Bring on next week! Miss Todd
