The AIM of the Game!!

Have you ever heard of the AIMs Games? It's the biggest international sporting championships in New Zealand. This week Oakura school for the first time participated in the 10th year of the AIMs intermediate school games. Eight students from Oakura School participated in the event in Tauranaga. We were in 3 sports: cross country, golf and tennis. The students that competed were: Jason, Tasmin, Max, Poppy, Emily, Charlie, Lachie and Skyler.

"The race was huge and it was an amazing race to do. I would love to do it again next year," said Lachie. The games are on all this week and many of the students are competing in Tauranga now and having the time of thier lives. The competition is extremely difficult and our cross country runners found it hard to even get in to the top 50. "The race was really hard, but also extremely rewarding by just finishing it, " said Tasmin. She added, "I would have loved to do it again, but sadly I can't because I am a Year 8."

I hope that all of the year 7's will participate in the AIMs Games next year as year 8's. I had a great time and enjoyed every second of it.

How to Dispose of your Electronics Safely!!

Going digital is coming on the 29th of September and we have to say goodbye to our old T.V.s.

How do we dispose of these? Do you think we chuck them in the bin and let the garbage truck take care of them? Or do we use... E-WASTE! (Eletronic waste)
What is e-waste most of you ask? Well e-waste is something where you can get rid of your T.V. safely by bringing it to your local recycling centre.  There they will take your electronics apart safely. Please don't do this at home because there is stuff in the T.V. that can give an electric shock that can kill you and chemical that can affect you.
E- waste is the fastest growing waste stream around the world. All electronic products from electric toothbrushes to fridges can be taken to an e-waste dump.
Our local e-waste dump is on 37 Corbett Road, Bell Block. The company name is Whitaker Civil Engineering. They are open at 8am to noon on Tuesdays to Saturdays.

YOU CAN DO YOUR BIT TO HELP OUR ENVIROMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
